The Craft of Writing

- A Bundled Collection Of Courses For Writing Well. -

Nick Carrington, PhD. Writer and Editor

For the last ten years, I've been a writing instructor at Cedarville University. My creative and journalistic writing has appeared in Heart of Flesh Literary Journal, Servants of Grace, Outreach Magazine, Servants of Grace, and others. I also serve as an editor for Hope Blooms, the digital publication of the Early Pregnancy Loss Association. For the last few years, I have edited fiction for aspiring authors.

Hello, I'm Nick Carrington, and God has given me a love of the written word. I have written fiction, articles, website content, and features, and have edited all of the same. My desire is for Christian writers to steward their gift well, writing both to serve God and others.

In this course, I'm going to discuss the necessary skills, disciplines, and processes you will need to write well.

The Course Curriculum

In this series of courses, we will explore how to write with a compelling style and voice, how to write better sentences, and how to cultivate the disciplines that will take your writing from good to great.

1. Master important style techniques to make your writing compelling.

What makes some writing more interesting than others? It's not luck; compelling writers have mastered how to use all the tools at their disposal. We will explore what some of these tools are and how you can use them well.

3. Learn the most important sentence structure principles.

You may have an excellent idea for a book, one that thousands of people would want to read. But if you can't communicate your ideas or story clearly, no one will want to read it. Writers must understand the principles that will make their prose both interesting and easy to read.

2. Cultivate the disciplines and processes that will lead to more efficient, effective writing.

Writing is hard, and we make all kinds of excuses not to do it, even when we have a book we want to write. Good disciplines and processes not only lead to better writing, they also help us accomplish our goals more quickly.

4. Find other resources to continue this journey.

Writing instructors have different ways of communicating vital information about the craft. We believe it's important that you hear from a variety of voices about what works and what doesn't. To that end, we've compiled the best writing resources you can find online for free.

Additional Enrollment Benefits

Learn from a fellow believer, called to writing in faith.

God gives us many responsibilities, including cultivating the talent He's instilled in each of us. My faith is the foundation for all my writing, even when not writing directly about the faith. With that perspective, I want to put you on the path to mastering the craft.

Learn from a fellow Christian writer who walks the talk

I still have a lot to learn about the craft, but God has allowed me to write in many different styles and explore the techniques we discuss in the course. I'll help you write better with the goal of loving God and loving others through your work.
